The program serves young adults, ages 18 to 25, who live in the Willimantic and Storrs area and have a diagnosed mental illness. YAS provides clinical treatment and continuity of care with community-based support services including case management, vocational, educational and recreational rehabilitation, housing, and psychiatric services. The Transitional Living House (TLH) is dedicated to working with young adults to learn the skills necessary to live independently. TLH is staffed 24/7 in a supportive environment aiding the young adults in learning the life skills necessary for independent living. The YAS Club House is a step down where residents become more independent and do not have staff on site 24/7. At each of these sites the young adults are expected to be actively working on their independent living skills and to maintain participation in the program. The underlying philosophy is to promote client recovery, independence and empowerment in a community setting. |
