An independent living program which is staffed 24 hours a day/7 days a week and works specifically with young adults aged 18 to 25 who are transitioning from services provided by DCF to those of DMHAS. There are 8 individual, one bedroom apartments located in the building. Young people served by this program have not lived independently, and are faced with the multiple challenges adolescents encounter as they enter the world of adult expectations and responsibility. In addition, these young adults have experienced significant emotional and/or substance abuse problems, and have often been institutionalized for much of their adolescence. TYP provides the young adult with the opportunity to gain the skills and the experience necessary to live independently in the community and clients also receive a variety of clinical services via the Young Adult Assertive Community Treatment Team (YAACTT) such as individual or group therapy, medication management, nursing/medical, etc. |
